Versant is one of several companies interested in acquiring Vox’s podcast division, according to a report from The New York Times cited by Adweek.
Adweek’s ticker item says the talks are still in the early stages. It also says a deal would fit Versant’s stated focus on diversifying its portfolio and revenue streams beyond its cable networks.
What the report says
According to the Adweek item, Vox’s podcast network produces nearly 40 podcasts. If those shows were to move under Versant, Adweek says the lineup would align with two of Versant’s four core verticals: political news & opinion and sports & genre entertainment.
The item identifies Versant as the parent company of MS NOW and CNBC.
Current status
No acquisition has been announced in the excerpted report. The only status described is that Versant is among the interested suitors and that discussions are at an early stage.
